The Faculty of Ayurveda at BHU offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Ayurveda. It was founded by Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1922 and is considered the academic "mother" to the Institute of Medical Sciences at Benares Hindu University. ==History== The ancient Indian healer and scholar Sushruta practiced surgery as well as taught in the city of Varanasi between the period of 1200 BC-600 BCE. Sushruta would also author the ''Sushruta Samhita'' there. The founder of Banaras Hindu University, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya would hence establish an Ayurvedic institute on the Benares Hindu University campus with the aim of integrating Ayurveda and the practice of modern medicine.
